Efficiently cooling and powering big data centers

Here is an interesting talk from Margie Backaus, Chief Business Office at Equinix, on how to build and manage large scale data centers. For every watt consumed by servers, a watt is needed for cooling. The design of data centers makes a dramatic impact on how cooling can be done and electricity saved.

Unfortunately, alternative energy sources are not (yet) considered a viable solution. But carbon offsets can address that.
