Carbon Footprint of WC 2010

I am obviously very excited about the Soccer World cup in South Africa, but as always, there are at least 2 sides to this coin. A recent study outlined the CO2 footprint of the entire tournament and totaled it up to 1 million cars on the road for a year. Yikes!

Comparatively, the footprint of WC 2006 was lower due to existing infrastructure, different energy mix, etc. Maybe environmental considerations should be included in the selection of the next location...
