Interesting new applications are emerging to bring carbon calculation into existing systems. Cloud-based Carbon calculation services such as Brighter Planet and AMEE offer up the complex science in background consumable through a simple API. Based on that, interesting new applications emerge either as stand-alone products or even as mash-up on existing sites:
* YakTrak: Calculate the footprint of your FedEx shipment!
* CarePlane: Calculate the footprint of airplane travel, also as a Chrome plugin for mash-up on Orbitz and other travel sites.
* Even more apps here. All of these are developed as GitHub projects as open source.
This is a power combination to bring to light new and unforeseen ideas to raise awareness on carbon emissions.
